What is on the very bottom of your bulk stored diesel tank?
Most likely there will be some condensed water, but chances are there could be some fine silt, sludge, contaminants, rust, biological gels and growth, or even worse!?
This “sample” of stored diesel fuel was taken from an underground tank at a regional hospital. In the event of a power failure, the diesel fuel is meant to supply an Emergency Power Generator!
This type of extreme contamination may never have been found in time, unless regular samples are collected from the very bottom of the bulk tanks.
How can you find out for certain if there are contaminants?
The most effective and economical method for collecting reliable samples is to use a model BB-4 “Diesel Now” Sampler.
The BB-4 Sampler can be used on any above-ground or under-ground storage tank.
The plunger at the base of the sampler has a neoprene O-Ring, which releases when it touches the floor of the tank allowing diesel fuel to enter into the sampler. After a few seconds, the sampler is lifted and the plunger and seal close off the bottom opening – securing the collected sample.
Samples are visually inspected and, if there is any doubt as to the quality of the diesel fuel, the sample should be sent to a qualified analytical laboratory for detailed testing.
